The ONS run the census once every 10 years in England and are estimated between censuses. These are used for resource allocation and planning as well as providing denominator population groups for some analyses.

There are two specific websites designed to help explore the possible impact that demography and certain conditions on populations either aged 65 and over: POPPI or populations aged 18 to 64: PANSI.
Originally developed for the Department of Health, this system provides population data by age band, gender, ethnic group, and tenure, for English local authorities.
These require an account to access but only one account is required to access both site and is free to register.
Projections are by Region and cover age groups but also gender, ethnic groups, health (including mental health) and learning disability.
